Shipping and delivery
How paintings are packed and shipped, how long it takes, and who pays for what. Your quote confirms the details for your order.
Shipping methods
- Express courier, such as DHL: door to door and the fastest. Best for single pieces and urgent orders.
- Air freight: a lower cost for larger or heavier shipments.
- Sea freight, by shared or full container: the lowest cost per piece for large orders, and the slowest.
Freight is quoted separately from the painting, so you can compare options.
Formats and packing
- Rolled: fully cured, interleaved with glassine and rolled face-out in a rigid tube. The lowest freight cost.
- Stretched: on a wooden frame, wrapped, with corner protection, and boxed. Ready to hang.
- Crated: large and framed pieces travel in a custom wooden crate.

How long it takes
Most paintings take 7 to 14 days to paint; large commissions usually take 3 to 5 weeks. Express courier usually reaches the US, UK, Canada and Australia within about 3 to 7 days after dispatch. Air and sea freight take longer. Your quote gives the estimate for your route.
Shipping to your customer
We can ship blind, straight to your customer, with no Velaturo branding on the box or the paperwork.
Duties, taxes and paperwork
Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice and a packing list. We work on FOB, CIF and DDP terms. Under FOB and CIF, import duties, taxes and clearance at the destination are the buyer's responsibility. Under DDP, we confirm the importer of record and who pays each fee before we quote. See importing hand-painted art.
If a painting arrives damaged
Check the outer package before signing and note any damage on the delivery receipt. Photograph the package and the painting, and send us the photos. In the rare case a painting arrives damaged, we'll send a replacement.
