Keeping hand-painted work consistent

Most studios ask you to accept colour variation as part of the craft. That is true of the craft. It is not an acceptable answer from a supplier.

Written colour review

Every piece is checked against the approved proof before it leaves the easel. The check is recorded against the order — who reviewed it, against what, and when. A check that is not written down did not happen.

A retained reference, not a memory

When you reorder six months later, we do not match against what someone remembers. We match against a reference piece held for that order, and the painter who made the original picks it up again.

The same hand, named

Every commission is assigned to a numbered painter. That number goes on the back of the canvas alongside the order number, the layer count and the date. If the painter who did your original is unavailable, we tell you before we start. We do not substitute quietly — quiet substitution is the single most common reason a reorder comes back wrong.

A photograph before it ships

The finished work is photographed under consistent light and sent to you. You approve it, or you tell us what to change, before it is packed. You can forward that photograph to your own customer.

What we cannot promise

A colour on a screen, a colour in print and a colour in pigment are three different things, and no studio can make them identical. Monitors differ. Room light differs. For a project where colour is critical — a hotel palette, a brand colour, a set that has to match existing pieces — order one physical sample first and approve the real object. We would rather tell you this now than after the container lands.

We also cannot promise that two hand-painted pieces will be identical. They will be consistent: same composition, same palette, same treatment, matched against the same reference. Identical is what printing is for.

Questions buyers ask

How do you record the colour review?

Against the order: the reviewer, the reference used, and the date. Painter number, layer count and date are also written on the back of the canvas.

How long do you keep a reference piece?

For as long as the order is live for reorders. Tell us if you expect to reorder a range seasonally and we will hold it indefinitely.

What happens if I am not happy with the photograph?

Tell us what to change. Reworking before shipping costs you nothing — that is the entire point of sending the photograph.

What if it arrives damaged?

Send photographs of the packaging and the piece. Damage caused by our packing or rolling is repainted at our cost.
